Abstract

PURPOSE: A composition for epoxy resin composition that is produced by adding a formaldehyde-modified coumarone resin to a coumarone resin and/or a petroleum resin, thus showing good compatibility with high-molecular epoxy resin and giving coating films with high transparency and anticorrosion property.
CONSTITUTION: 100pts.wt. of oil for producing a coumarone resin, that is, a light oil from the coal coke furnace gas or tar light oil boiling at 110W210°C, are mixed with 10W80pts. of formaldehyde as a modifier in the presence of a catalyst (0.1W 40wt% of sulfuric acid) and they are polymerized to prepare a modified coumarone resin. The resultant modified coumarone resin is mixed with a coumarone resin and/or a petroleum resin by more than 50wt%. The high-molecular epoxy resin means of more than 900 molecular weight. When 100pts. of epoxy resin are combined with 5W400pts. of the modified coumarone resin, the desired effect develops.
