Abstract

PURPOSE: To recover highly pure organic solvent, economically, in an industrial scale, from a crude organic solvent containing urethane prepolymer, preventing the polymerization of the prepolymer, by distilling the crude solvent after treatment with a lower aliphatic alcohol, etc.
CONSTITUTION: A crude organic solvent (e.g. acetone) containing urethane prepolymer and obtained from the washing process of a reactor for preparation of urethane prepolymer, is mixed with a lower aliphatic alcohol (e.g. methanol) and a urethanization catalyst (e.g. dibutyltin dilaurate, dimethylbenzylamine, etc.), and heated at 30W150°C, pref. 50W80°C to effect the blocking of the isocyanate groups in the prepolymer. After the treatment, the mixture is distilled to recover the solvent.
