Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain polyisocyanate being low in a conten of unreacted tolylene diisocyanate and useful as a curing agent for urethane paints, by isocyanurating tolylene diisocyanate in the presnce of a specified organic liquid.
CONSTITUTION: To a reaction vessel are added 100pts.wt. of (i) tolylene diisocyanate, 100W250pts.wt. of (ii) an organic liquid such as n-hexane, which is a good solvent for tolylene diisocyanate but is a non-solvent for the resulting polyisocyanate and (iii) a catalyst such as sodium methylate, and then isocyanuration is carried out at 30W60°C. To the reaction product obtained is added a good solvent for the resulting polyisocyanate, such as ethyl acetate, and then the non-solvent (ii) is distilled off under vacuum to obtain polyisocyanate having an unreacted tolylene diisocyanate content of below 1wt%.
EFFECT: Urethane paints employing the polyisocyanate have excellent drying properties.
