PURPOSE:To perform the correct discrimination of knocking signal even in a range of high speed of an engine, by changing the center frequency of a band pass filter for detecting a knocking signal correspondingly to a change of speed of the engine. CONSTITUTION:A means O is provided for correspondingly changing the center frequency of a band pass filter B for discriminating a signal of knocking frequency to the change of speed of an engine. Then, for instance, vibration of the engine is converted by a knocking sensor A into an electric signal, and only the proper frequency band of a knock signal is allowed to pass the bank pass filter B and amplified by an amplifier C. A signal subtracted a background noise from this output is input to a knocking level-voltage converter G, and a delay signal generated by a delay signal generator U according to output of said converter G and a signal generated by a reference ignition timing signal generator Q control a primary current of an ignition coil T.
