Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the wear resistance of a material consisting of a hard substance having a specified composition and a specified percentage of an iron group metal as a binder by specifying the molar ratio of Hf to Ti in the hard substance.
CONSTITUTION: The molar ratio of Hf to Ti contained in the hard substance of a material consisting of the substance and 1W30wt% one or more kinds of iron group metals as a binder is adjusted to 0.2W0.8 to enhance the wear resistance of the material. The hard substance is composed basically of two or more among the carbides, nitrides and oxides of the IVa, Va and VIa group transistion metals and Al2O3. In order to enhance the sinterability , heat resitance, etc. one or more among Mo, Al, Ag, MgO, Cr, Cu, W and a rare earth element oxide may be substituted for the binder upto 70wt%.
