Abstract

PURPOSE:To utilize an electrode tip effectively, by covering an electrode section above an electrolytic boundary with an insulating body so that electric discharge from this boundary is eliminated. CONSTITUTION:Surface of an electric discharge machining electrode 1', except a sharp tip section 1a, is insulated by being covered with ceramic 4. When conducting electric discharge machining to bore a die hole 3a on a preset diamond using this electrode 1', while electric discharge takes place under the electrolyte, it does not take place in the electrolytic boundary 1b of the electrode 1' because of being covered by ceramic 4, and therefore, this boundary section 1b is not worn out and only the tip section 1a is worn out. This tip section 1a, however, can be reused by regrinding its worn out tip.
