Abstract

PURPOSE: To permit a simpler apparatus to perform a highly accurate measurement of the discharge of molten metal from the container of an automatic molten metal pouring apparatus by optically detecting the variation of the diameter of the molten metal column at a fixed level position when the molten metal is supplied to a mold.
CONSTITUTION: Molten metal 2 stored in a container 1 is supplied through a molten metal feeding port 1a and a leading hole 3b of a fire-resisting pipe 3a to a mold 4. The variation of the diameter R of the molten metal column is detected by using an optical detector 5, whose output is supplied to an input terminal 6a of a controller 6 for a solenoid pump.
