Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect the level of molten steel securely by making the electrical resistance of an electrode constant within a specific range. CONSTITUTION:Electrode 5 is inserted from upper part of a mold into flux 4. The lower end of the electrode 5 is held in slag 3 while the electrode 5 is suspended so that it is freely moved horizontally through an elevator 6. A constant current is supplied from a constant current generator 9 through the electrode 5, and the resistance between the electrode 5 and the molten steel 2 is sampled with a resistance measuring instrument 10. The output of said resistance measuring instrument 10 is compared with a constant resistance of the 5-50OMEGA range previously set by a resistance setter 11 by means of a differential amplifier 12. The difference value is converted into the control output for a servomotor 7 by a power amplifier 13. The obtained output is employed to control the driving of the servomotor 7 to move the elevator 6 horizontally.
