Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a superior rare earth element magnet undergoing little lowering in the coercive force as a magnetic characteristic by molding powder of an intermetallic compound consisting of one or more kinds of rare earth elements, one or more among Be, Li, etc. and other element.
CONSTITUTION: Powder of an intermetallic compound consisting of one or more kinds of rare earth elements such as Sm and Ce, one or more among Be, Li, Na, etc. and other element such as V or Nb in a suitable ratio is finely pulverized in an inert gas, a vacuum, an org. solvent or the like, compression molded, well degassed, and sintered at a predetermined temp. Suitable heat treatment is then carried out once or more to raise the density. Thus, a rare earth element magnet with superior magnetic characteristics is obtd. The coercive force as a magnetic characteristic is not lowered owing to the density raise unlike a conventional method.
