Abstract
PURPOSE:To eliminate the flickering of the illumination of a fluorescent lamp due to an ionization phenomenon, by moving atoms which are ionized within a fluorescent tube toward the wall of the tube by means of a magnetic field, and recombining the atoms with discharged electrons. CONSTITUTION:A concave ditch 2a is provided on the outer surface of a straight glass-tube, which is charged with a mixture rare gases whose main component is krypton, along the axis of the tube. A permanent magnet 8 at magnetic-field generator is installed in the concave ditch 2a. Since the magnetic field of the permanent magnet 8 crosses the discharge route, the magnetic field moves mercury ions with small mobilities toward the wall of the tube, the recombinations of the mercury ions with discharged electrons being accelerated.
