Abstract
PURPOSE: To uniformalize the illumination distribution of the lamp axis cross section by pressing the upsurge of arc which is generated between both electrodes of a glow tube and setting up a rare earth magnet with the high Curie point at the center of the glow tube.
CONSTITUTION: The rare earth magnet 8 is set up touching the upper center of the tube wall of the glow tube 3 and is fixed to the supporting rod 7 with the fixed member 9. It is pressed against the arc which is generated between the main electrodes 4 and 4' of the glow tube 3 and actuates magnetic repulsive force downward. When this metal halide lamp is used, it is horizontally set up and is inserted into the lamp holder on which its base 2 is also horizontally set up. When it lights, starting glow discharge is performed between the main electrode 4 of the glow tube 3 and its auxiliary electrode 5 and the glow discharge is then performed between the main electrode 4 and 4'. Arc is generated and the glow tube 3 is emitted. This enables the directivity of the illumination distribution and emission of the lamp axis in the cross section to be made circularly symmetical.
