Abstract

PURPOSE: To rapidly inject cooling water into a water jacket, by connecting the water jacket to a negative pressure source to provide negative pressure in the water jacket.
CONSTITUTION: The interior of a second tank 81 is kept at negative pressure not higher than about 250mmHg, by the operation of a vacuum pump 82. When a valve 130 is opened in that state, air in the water jacket 16 of an engine 2 is sucked out into the second tank 81 by the negative pressure therein. The operation of the vacuum pump 82 is continued so that the interior of the water jacket 16 is set at negative pressure not higher than about 250mmHg. When it is detected that the negative pressure has become not higher than said value, valves 85, 130 are automatically closed and the first tank 79 and a hole 77 are connected to each other through another valve 84. As a result, cooling water in the first tank 79 flows into the water jacket 16 of the engine 2 through the first tube 87, the hole 77, a port 24 and a hose 22.
