Abstract
PURPOSE:To provide a compact tower with enhanced efficiency of exchange reaction by a method wherein vertical layers of a hydrophilic filler and a hydrophobic catalyst are devidedly filled in a hydrogen isotope exchange reaction tower, and each sections are alternately arranged. CONSTITUTION:Hydrogen is sent via holes 18 to the upper-stage hydrophobic catalyst layer 13; water falling through hydrophilic filler layer 12 is selectively sent via holes 17 to lower-stage hydrophilic filler layer 12. The liquid redistribution plate 15 causes the water to go to the hydrophilic filler layer 12 and the hydrogen to go to the hydrophobic catalyst layer 13, so that water and steam exchange reaction is conducted through the partition plate 14. As hydrophobic catalyst, platimum is carried by a carrier such as styrene-divinyl benzene copolymer; suitable hydrophilic filler should have the same size and shape as the hydrophobic catalyst.
