Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve cooling efficiency by providing a flow deflector on the upstream side of a cooling water passage formed between the suction and exhaust ports of a water jacket to pass more cooling water in the lower part of the passage. CONSTITUTION:In the upstream part of a narrow cooling water passage 14 formed between a suction and an exhaust port, i.e., between the passage 14 and a cooling water inlet 10, a flow deflector 13 is provided. The flow deflector 13 consists of a deflector part 13a which has a slop 15 that guides flow of the cooling water to the lower side and a suppressor part 13b which suppresses flow to the direction of a cooling water passage 16. Cooling water from the inlet 10 is restricted to flow to the direction of the passage 16 by the suppressor part 13b and deflected to the lower side by the slope 15 of the deflector part 13a, the quantity of cooling water flowing in the lower part of the passage 14a is therefore increased (as shown by a thick arrow mark) and flow of more cooling water is formed along a cross-hatched part where the highest cooling efficiency is required in the cylinder head 1.
