Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve combustion efficiency, by providing an intake guide recess for causing a swirl and two intake guide recesses for causing a straightly descending flow, at the edge of the intake port of a cylinder head to produce an intense turbulence in a cylinder.
CONSTITUTION: Three portions of the edge 10 of an intake port 9 opened on the bottom of a cylinder head 7 are much chamfered to provide three intake guide recesses 11, 12, 12'. As for the first intake guide recess 1, the edge 10 of the intake port 9 is chamfered at a relatively small gradient angle to the bottom 8 of the cylinder head 7 so that the recess 11 has a relatively large length l1 outward from the edge 10 in the radial direction and a relatively large width W1. Though the edge 10 is likewise chamfered as to the other intake guide recesses 12, 12', their chamfering angle is relatively large and their length l2 and width W2 are relatively small. This results in causing an intake flow consisting of a swirl S and straightly descending flows L1, L2.
