Abstract

PURPOSE: To efficiently deaerate casting sand and cool the sand to optimum temperatures by charging the molding sand into a vacuum-acting tank to subject the same to temperature lowering and removal of moisture, then air-feeding the same to the next process and at the same time expelling the sand clogging in the vacucum-acting pipes at every air-feeding.
CONSTITUTION: A predetermined amount of molding sand 16 is charged into a vacuum-acting tank 1. When a damper 4 is closed, a vacuum mechanism operates to generate suction forces around the fine pore 7 groups of vacuum-acting pipes 8, and a vacuum-acting chamber 11 is instantaneously evacuated. During this vacuum acting, the hot air and moisture of the molding sand are sucked out. After a preset time, a damper 4a is opened and air is spouted from an air nozzle 5, by which the molding sand 16 is blown into an air feed pipe 12 and is air-fed to the next process. At this time, the air having been fed into a by-pass pipe 9 reaches the vacuum- acting pipes 8 which in turn spouts the air through the fine pores 7 into the vacuum- acting chamber 11, to open the fine pores 7 having been clogged. If the molding sand is reitertively used by this method, the discharging of defectives at the casting may be decreased.
