PURPOSE:To enable the use of a generator up to the limit of its thermal capacity by limiting an excessive excitation of the generator when the field current exceeds the time limit inversely proportional to the magnitude of the allowable field current when the field current exceeds the allowable field current responsive to the internal cooling gas pressure of the generator. CONSTITUTION:When a deviation signal between a field current set value responsive to the internal cooling gas pressure of a generator 1 from an allowable field current setting unit 12 and a field current detected by a shunt unit 6 becomes higher than a predetermined value, a relay 14 is energized so that its contact 14b is opened. Thus, an operational amplifier 16 will integrate a deviation signal with a time constant inversely proportional to the deviation signal. When the output signal of the amplifier 16 exceeds the output from the voltage signal generator 18, a relay 20 is energized so that its contact 20a is closed, and the deviation signal is supplied to an automatic voltage controller 4.
