Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a highly reliable sensor which is strong against electric noises and can be monitored even from a remote place by a simple constitution wherein a magnet impressing a magnetic field on a Faraday-effect element is arranged to be movable in parallel to the magnetic field.
CONSTITUTION: The light from a light source 4 is collimated by a lens 5 and thereby transduced into a parallel beam, and a straight polarized light is taken out by a polarizer 2 and introduced into the Faraday-effect element 1. The light is reflected by the perpendicular surfaces 1a and 1b of the element 1 and turned back, and is taken outside from the plane of incidence and introduced into a light-receiving part 7 through an analyzer 3 and a lens 6. In addition, the ring-shaped magnet 8 is arranged to be movable in parallel to the beam through the intermediary of an arm 9, and by the displacement of the magnet 8 the magnetic field impressed on the element 1 is changed and detected by the light-receiving part 7 as the change in the strength of the output of the light taken out from the analyzer 3. By utilizing the light in this way, the sensor which is strong against electromagnetic noises and enables the detection from a remote place can be obtained.
