Abstract
PURPOSE: To enable detection of the local thickness of the refractory lining as well by a method wherein a plurality of taps are provided on an induction coil and the partial unity power factor of the induction coil is detected from the voltage between the taps and from the current flowing through the induction coil.
CONSTITUTION: A plurality of taps v1Wv6 are provided on the induction coil 3 and the voltage between the desired adjacent taps is taken out by a switching apparatus 8. The voltage between the taps taken out by the operation of the switching apparatus 8 is inputted in a power-factor meter 6 through the intermediary of a single-phase transformer 5. The current is inputted in the power-factor meter 6 from a current transformer 4. The unity power factor measured in this way is detected from the voltage between the taps and from the current flowing through the induction coil 3, and the partial thickness of the refractory lining of the induction coil which is detected along with the detection of the unity power factor is indicated by an indicator 8. Thus, the local thickness of the refractory lining can also be detected.
