Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain hexavalent tellurium compound easily by contacting hydrogen peroxide with the tetravalent tellurium compound in the presence of an iron ion.
CONSTITUTION: The tetravalent tellurium compound obtained by adding nitric acid to metal tellurium is oxidized by hydrogen peroxide in the presence of the iron ion as a reaction promotor to obtain the hexavalent tellurium compound. As hydrogen peroxide, a commercial hydrogen peroxide with a concn. of about 5W60% is used and, as the iron ion, either divalent or trivalent iron ion can be used and, for example, ferrous or ferric nitrate, ferrous or ferric sulphate are designated and pref. used in an amount of about 0.1g atom or more against 1g atom of the tetravalent tellurium compound. Moreover, the concn. of the iron ion is pref. 0.2ion/l or more.
