Abstract

PURPOSE: To control the quantity of org. carbon source to be poured to a denitriding step, by measuring the change in total alkalinity during nitration step in the biological denitriding process.
CONSTITUTION: Ammonite nitrogen contained in raw water 1 is converted to nitrate nitrogen in a nitration tank 3 by the action of nitrating fungi, and the water 1 is discharged as treated water 2. The treated water 2 is sent to a nitriding tank 4, where org. carbon source 11 e.g. methanol is added and the nitrogen compound contained in the water is removed from the water as nitrogen gas by the action of denitriding fungi to form treated water 5 which is discharged. The total alkalinity of the raw water 1 and that of the treated water 2 are measured by total alkalinity analysis circuits 6, 6' 7 and the change is calculated by an arithmetic unit 8. A controller 9 controls a pouring unit 10 for org. carbon source according to the signals of the arithmetic units 8 so as to adjust the pouring quantity. If necessary, a nitration step 13 for monitoring may be installed, in that case a fluidized bed type nitrator is preferable.
