Abstract

PURPOSE:To economically and efficiently prepare basic pentacalcium triphosphate, by combustion treatment, at a specific temprature, of bone chain coal produced by dry distillation of animal bones. CONSTITUTION:Bones of mammal, e.g., cattle are subjected to dry distillation at about 600-800 deg.C. The time and temperature range needed are properly selected depending on the size and the degree of stacking bones. The dry distillation results in decomposition and removal of organic material and water, providing bone charcoal essentially consisting of Ca3(PO4)2nH2O. The obtained bone charcoal is burnt at 1,000-1,500 deg.C in fuel oil furnace, gas furnace, or high-frequency furnace, thereby efficiently producing basic pentacalcium triphosphate Ca5(PO4)3OH.
