Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent any crack of the surface of a plate as well as any separation of the surface from the porous metal body of the plate, by bending a slit in such a manner that it has an arc-shaped form; the slit is used for adjusting the thickness of an applied layer on the porous metal body when an electrode is manufactured by the slurry method. CONSTITUTION:A porous metal body 5 such as a punched metal, which is coiled around a roller 9, is passed through a tank 10 in which a paste 11 whose main component is iron powder for an iron electrode to apply the paste 11 to the surfaces of the body 5. This is passed through a slit 7 to adjust the thickness of that, subjected to drying 12 and sintering 13, before the sintered body is rolled around a take- up roller 17, thus a sintered electrode is manufactured. Here, the entire slit is bent in such a manner that the radius of the slit correspond with the radius of the porous metal body 5 across the width of it.
