Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a discharge working electrode showing a high working speed by mixing the oxide of an alkaline earth metal and a metal as a reducing agent for the oxide into an electrically conductive materal in the form of powder and molding the mixture by a powder metallurgical method. CONSTITUTION:To powder of an electrically conductive material such as Cu, Cu alloy or C are added 5-10% powder of the oxide of an alkaline earth metal such as Ca or Ba with low thermoelectronic work function, 5-15% powder of Si, Mg, Al or other metal as a reducing agent for the oxide and a 2% aqeuous soln. of sodium alginate as a binder to prepare a suspension. this suspension is poured into a gypsum mold and dried, and then the molding is taken out of the mold and calcined at about 700 deg.C in a vacuum. The Ca or Ba oxide is reduced to Ca or Ba which is contained in the electrically conductive material such as Cu as a metallic component with low electronic work function. Thus, a discharge working electrode showing a high working speed is obtd.
