Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve scavenging of and eddy current in a sub combustion chamber to improve igniting characteristics by a method wherein the sub chamber cup engaged within an engaging hole of a cylinder head is secured by a hollow pin and a main and the sub combustion chambers are communicated through a hollow portion of the pin as a communicating hole.
CONSTITUTION: In case a sub chamber cup 10 is sttached to a cylinder head 2, an engaging hole 11, for engaging the sub cup 10 into a main combustion chamber 5, slanting with respect to an axial line of a piston 3 is bored on a cylinder head 2 and a sub combustion chamber 12 is formed by engaging the sub chamber cup 10 within the engaging hole 11. An electrode 14 of an ignition plug 13 screwed into the cylinder head 2 is confronted to the sub combustion chamber 12. A recessed portion 30 is provided at a squish area 29 between the sub chamber cup 10 and an axhaust valve 9 and holes 31, 32 are bored from the recessed portion 30 into a direction toward the sub combustion chamber 12, while a pin 33 provided with a communicating hole 34 communicating the main and sub combustion chamber 5, 12 is inserted into the hole for the pin to secure the cup 10.
