Abstract

PURPOSE: To membrane-bound type aldehyde dehydrogenase that is produced by separating from the membrane fraction of cultured cells of microorganism belonging to Gluconobacter or Acetobacter, thus effecting the oxidation of aldehyde only in the presence of oxidation type electron acceptor.
CONSTITUTION: A microorganism belonging to Gluconobacter or Acetobacter, e.g., Gluconobacter suboxidans IFO-12528 or Acetobacter aceti IFO-3284, is cultured in an approximate medium and the cells are separated from the medium. The cells are crushed and the enzyme is solubilized by use of a surfactant or centrifuged to separate the membrane fraction, which is suspended in a buffer containing a surfactant to solubilize the enzyme.
