Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent run-off of oil from a breathing hole by a method wherein a portion of a crank case opposing to a starting gear is made to have a configuration close to the starting gear and the breathing hole opened in a space between a back surface of the starting gear and the case is provided, in a breathing device fo the crank case or the like.
CONSTITUTION: A cover 12 is attached to a right case 10' of a crank case 10 for a motor bicycle and a kick shaft 20 is journaled in a boss 18 of the cover 12. A starting gear 30 is engaged at an intermediate portion of the kick shaft 20 through a spline and the gear 30 is moved to the right against a returning spring 24 upon cranking of an engine to engage properly with an idle gear 46. In this case, a breathing hole 40 is bored at a position in the right case 10' opposing to the starting gear 30 or a place closed to a stopper plate 36 and is communicated with open air through a pipe 44. According to this method, invasion of lubricant, dispersed by a gear 52 or the like during an operation of the engine, into the hole 40 may be prevented effectively.
