Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable a recirculation of exhaust gas by a large amount only when the vehicle is required to accelerate by providing the first and the second diaphragm mechanism in an exhaust gas recirculation system, the first mechanism of which is operated when the vehicle is accelerated.
CONSTITUTION: In an internal combustion engine 1, an intake manifold 3 and an exhaust manifold 2 are communicated with each other through an exhaust gas recirculation passage 4 including an exhaust gas recirculation control valve 5, which enables a recirculation of a part of exhaust gas into an intake system. The control valve 5 comprises the first diaphragm mechanism 50 connected with a valve member 53 through a shaft 52 and the second diaphragm mechanism fixed with a pipe 74 which works as a stopper for the valve member 53. A vacuum chamber 55 defined by the first diaphragm 51 is opened slightly upstream of a throttle valve 82 whereas a vacuum chamber 73 defined by the second diaphragm 71 is opened to the intake manifold 3. In acceleration of the vehicle, the velve member 53 is moveable due tothe vacuum acting on the vacuum chamber 73 and opened by the vacuum acting on the vacuum chamber 55.
