PURPOSE:To enable indication on CRT and the like without any trouble in actual employment even when a memory of small capacity is used by a method wherein the amplitude compression is performed only for signals required for indication after they are passed through a clutter level, by the use of a nonlinear amplifier. CONSTITUTION:A pulsation signal transduced from a reflection signal by a detector 4 is given to a clutter-level adjuster 6 and only a required constituent of signal exceeding a clutter level set beforehand is added to a nonlinear amplifier 7. In the nonlinear amplifier 7, the signal is amplified in such a manner that the degree of amplification of a signal of large amplitude is restricted, and, since a signal of low level is cut beforehand, a signal of middle level is to be stored in a memory 9 through an A/D transducer 8. Thus, the capacity of the memory 9 can be made small. In addition, if a nonlinear D/A transducer formed through unification of a D/A transducer 10 and a nonlinear amplifier 11 is employed, correction of linearity of an indicator such as CRT and processing for an image thereby indicated are also turned to be possible.
