Abstract

PURPOSE: To greatly reduce fuel consumption by securing to an external wall of a cylinder liner an outer race through which many scavenging apertures open, and inserting between the outer race and the external wall of the cylinder liner a valve plate through which many scavenging pinholes open.
CONSTITUTION: Upper and lower scavenging through holes 2, 3 are made on the lower side of a cylinder liner 1 and a scavenging self-control valve 4 is attached so as to cover the line of the upper scavenging through-holes 2. The scavenging self- control valve 4 consists of an outer race 5 through which many elliptical pinholes 5a open arbitrarily, and a valve plate 6 which is inserted between the outer race 5 and the cylinder liner 1. Many elliptical apertures 6a are drilled arbitrarily in the valve plate 6. While a high pressure exhausting is executed, the valve plate 6 is elastically stuck onto the outer race 5 due to a pressure difference between the inside and outside of the valve plate 6, preventing a high pressure gas in a cylinder from flowing into a scavenging room. When a piston 12 is lowered to reduce a gas pressure in the cylinder, the valve plate 6 is detached from the outer race 5 and allows an inflow for beginning scavenging.
