Abstract

PURPOSE:To collect oil to an oil sump part in an oil pan constituted by the oil sump part and a shallow bottom part without being affected by a whirl air flow due to the motion of a crankshaft, by providing an oil seizure port in a cover of an oil passage. CONSTITUTION:An oil pan is mounted to the lower side of a cylinder block 18 and constituted by a deep bottommed oil sump part 10 and a sloping shallow bottommed part 12. In a cover 34 provided on the top level of an oil passage 32 an oil seizure port 58 is formed. A large end part 61 of a connecting rod is rotated by drawing a locus of an envelope 63, through a drop of oil onto the bottommed part 12 tends to flow in a same direction by a whirl flow in the direction as shown by an arrow mark 62, the oil is seized by the oil seizure port 58 into the oil passage 32. As this oil is fed to the oil sump 10, the level of oil is not lowered even if the oil pan is formed into a shallow shape in a wide range, then the oil sump part can be surely filled with a full amount of oil.
