Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the heat resistance of 4-methylpentene-1 polymer and to thereby prolong its life, by adding carbon black to the 4-methylpentene-1 polymer so that the ash content of the composition is below a specific percentage.
CONSTITUTION: In improving the strength and weather resistance of a 4-methylpentene-1 polymer by adding carbon black to the polymer, the amount of carbon black added is varied dependent upon the ash content of the carbon black so that the ash content of the polymer composition is below 0.003wt%. This makes it possible to prevent thermal degradation of the polymer and to thereby maintain the resistance to dielectric breakdown for a long time. Heat resistance is further improved by combined use of a known inhibitor against deterioration by copper.
