Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain an amorphous alloy undergoing a slight change with the passage of time by spraying a molten alloy of Co, Ni, Fe and Hf or Hf and a specified element onto the surface of a roll from a nozzle protected in a specified atmosphere and solidifying the alloy.
CONSTITUTION: A molten alloy represented by formula (Cox.Niy.Fez)a.Mb (where M is Hf or Hf and Zr and/or Ti, X=1-y-z, 0≤x≤1, 0≤y≤1, a+b=100 and 5≤b≤30) is sprayed onto the surface of a roll from a nozzle and solidified by rapid cooling. At this time, the nozzle is protected in a vacuum, an inert atmosphere or a reducing atmosphere at least before spraying the molten alloy to prevent the oxidation and inhibited spraying of the nozzle due to Hf contained in the alloy. By this method an amorphous metal alloy is obtd. undergoing a slight change in the mechanical and electromagnetic characteristics with the passage of time.
