Abstract

PURPOSE: To simplify work and improve restraining function by forming a restraining part for prevention of deformation at the end of piping, applying build-up welding on the inner side of the piping at the restraining part then removing the restraining part and butt-welding the build-up portions to themselves.
CONSTITUTION: The end of a steel pipe 1 is fitted into the groove 7 of a restraining ring 6 to form a restraining part for preventing deformation. Thence, build-up metal 5 is padded to an edge-prepared portion 4, after which the restraining ring 6 is removed from the steel pipe 1 and further the end of the steel pipe 1 is cut. The cut portion of the build-up part 5 of the steel pipe 1 is butted to the cut portion of the build-up part of the other steel pipe and these are joined by welding. This method is particularly advantageous for the work in a narrow place, under high radiation, etc. In addition, the shrinkage stress at the bulid-up is received evenly by the entire part of the faying surfaces of the restraining ring 6 and steel pipes 1, the restraining function may be improved.
