Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance work stability during vulcanization, by use of a condensation product, obtained by the addition of carbon disulfide and formaldehyde to a speci- fied amine, as a vulcanization accelerator in the vulcanization of chloroprene.
CONSTITUTION: Carbon disulfide and formaldehyde are added to an amine of formula R1R2NH (wherein R1 is C2H5, CH3 or C6H5; R2 is H or CH3), such as monoethylamine, dimethylamine or aniline, and the resulting mixture is air blown at about 90W100°C for about 9W12hr with evolution of hydrogen sulfide, to obtain a condensation product. In the vulcanization of a chloroprene rubber, it is vulcanized at about 140W160°C, with addition of about 0.5W1.5pts.wt. of the product per 100pts.wt. of the rubber, as a vulcanization accelerator. Thus scorch time during vulcanization is prolonged and work stability is enhanced.
