Abstract
PURPOSE:To manufacture the cast billet with desired breadth at a speed corresponding to the molten metal pouring rate, without lowering the puring rate, by periodically pressing the cast billet, which has finished the secondary cooling and is standing before the cutting machine, from both sides so as to compress every part of the billet sectioned into a uniform length. CONSTITUTION:By driving the billet clamping cylinder 11, the cast billet 4, which has finished the secondary cooling, is clamped from both sides, and the housing 1 is forward moved following to the movement of the cast billet 4. And when the moving speed of the housing 1 is tuned up with the moving speed of the cast billet 4, the billet pressing cylinder 5 is driven so as to press the cast billet 4 from both sides by the pressing heads 9; when the breadth of the cast billet 4 is reduced to the specified breadth, the drive of the cylinder 5 is stopped. Soon after the end of this pressing work, the cylinder 5 is driven in the reverse direction so as to open the head 9 to the left and the right, and also, this reverse drive of the cylinder 11 is continued unitl the clamping of the billet 4 is released. Finally, the housing-return cylinder 16 is driven, to retreat the housing 1 to the initial position, and the one pass is completed.
