Abstract

PURPOSE: To mass-produce interferon without the stimulation of an interferon inducer, by incubating a human lymphoblastic cell from prolonged infection with measles virus in a nutrient culture medium, and collecting interferon from the culture fluid.
CONSTITUTION: An incubated human lymphoblastic cell is inoculated with an attenuated variant of measles virus in an amount of 10W102 infection value per 103 cells, and incubated in a nutrient cluture medium containing 10% a bovine fetal serum to give a stable human lymphoblastic cell from prolonged infection with measles virus. The human lymphoblastic cell from prolonged infectio with meales virus is incubated in a culture medium usually used for the tissue culture of an animal, and the interferon is separated and collected from the resultant cluture fluid by the well-known separation means, e.g. separation of the cell from th cluture fluid through centrifugation, treatment with a surfactant, and salting out. The addition of a serum, e.g. the bovine fetal serum, to the nutrient culture medium improves the production of the interferon.
