CONSTITUTION: A variant which belongs to the genus Brevibacterium, has the auxotropy for L-isoleucine and L-methionine, the resistance to D-ribose, purine ribonucleoside or pyrimidine ribonucleoside and the ability to produce L-valine is incubated, and the L-valine produced and accumulated in the culture medium is collected. Brevibacterium lactofermentum AJ 11460 etc. may be cited as the variant. The culture medium for incubating the variant contains a carbon source, and an ordinary culture medium containing a nitrogen source, inorganic ions, and if necessary other organic minor nutrients may be used.
