Abstract
PURPOSE: To shorten the distance between the edge heater and the welding point, and to contrive the saving of the electric heating power and the improvement of the quality of electric welded pipe, by employing the die instead of the squeeze roll for butt welding the pipe edges, at manufacturing the electric welded pipe.
CONSTITUTION: The skelp S is passed the breakdown roll, the side roll, the side cluster roll, and the fin pass roll FR, and hereby, the C- or U-type section is formed into the O-type. The O-section's two edges E1, E2, facing each other, pass the induction heating coil C and are brought into the molten state; just after that, the skelp S is passed through the die D, and two edges are butt welded; hereby, the electric welded pipe is manufactured. Because the die D is arranged just after the heater C, the welding point for two edges can be set very near the heater C as compared with the case employing the squeeze roll, the cooling is less effective, so that the electric welded pipe of good quality obtained because of the less oxidization of the alloy metal element in case of the alloy steel, can be manufactured by the saved electric power consumption.
