Abstract
PURPOSE: The reaction of 3-butenoic ester with phenyltribromomethylmercury is followed by debromination, hydrolysis, debromination, action of ammonia and a base to pass five novel intermediate and finally give the title compound used to control rice bacterial leaf blight.
CONSTITUTION: The reaction of 3-butenoic ester of formula I (R is protecting group for carboxyls) with phenyltribromomethylmercury affords a novel compound of formula II, with which hydrogenated tri-n-butyltin is made to react, thus giving a novel compound of formula III. The product is hydrolyzed to give a novel compound of formula IV, on which bromine is made to act in the presence of a catalyst to form novel 2-bromocyclopropyl-α-bromoacetic acid of formula V. Subsequently, ammonia is made to act on the acid to give novel 2-bromocyclopropyl-α-aminoacetic acid of formula VI and finally the cyclization is effected in the presence of a base such as sodium hydroxide to produce efficiently substance SF-1836 of formula VII.
