Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the power consumption at the time of change from a closed state to an open state, by connecting the output of a resonance circuit to a control terminal through a series resonance circuit whose resonance frequency is equal to the oscillation frequency of a switching element. CONSTITUTION:The terminal voltage of the capacitor C1 of the resonance circuit is coupled to the control terminal B of the switching element TR through the series resonance circuit L2, C2 whose resonance frequency is equalized to the oscillation frequency of the switching element TR. As a result, a pulse voltage appears across both the terminals of an element L2 because the rate of the time-dependent change in a current which flows when the potential on the terminal B falls and the switching element TR is turned off is large, as shown in (b). The pulse voltage acts in a direction to sweep out positive holes from a base region to shorten the time of the change of the switching element TR from its closed state to its open state and reduce power consumption.
