Abstract

PURPOSE: To continuously meausre the state of inner shaping on-line immediately, by movably locating the ultrasonic wave thickness meter to the electric welded tube before cut-off into a given length.
CONSTITUTION: The inner shape measuring unit 32 or 32' providing the ultrasonic wave thickness meter 14 taking the range of ±30° as the shaking range through taking the ideal seam position 12 of the electric welded steel tube 10 as the center, is located between the sizing roll group 26 and the pinch roll 28 or between the shaper 24 and the sizing roll group 26. Further, after the inner and outer shaping by the shaper 24 and before the cut-off by the constant cutter 30, the ultrasonic wave thickness meter 14 is periodically shaken to the tube 10 carried straight, thickness measurement is made along the wave line 16, and the locus of thickness outputed with the ultrasonic wave thickness meter 14 is takne as the inner shape of the welding part of the tube 10. Thus, the state of inner shaping of the tube 10 can continuously be measured immediately on-line.
