Abstract

PURPOSE:To extend the life time of a continuously cast mold, by cutting the internal surface of a substrate so that the thickness of the substrate is reduced continuously from the upper part to the lower part, by plating the surface, then by cutting the plated surface so that the finished surface coincides with the standard surface thereby forming plated layer with differential thickness. CONSTITUTION:A center of curvature 0 (standard point) for usual cutting is moved downward to 0', and the internal surface of a substrate is cut with the 0' used as the center. Then the internal surface is plated 5. The plating in uniform thickness may be useful, however it is preferable economically to plate the upper part less thickly than the lower part using a jig for restraining electric current. Finally, the center of curvature for cutting is moved to the ordinary position, and the plated surface is cut so that finished surface coincides with the standard surface (standard surface for operation). Hereby a plated layer 6, whose finished surface coincides with the standard surface, and whose thickness varies continuously from the upper part to the lower part, is obtained.
