Abstract

PURPOSE: To treat waste water effectively with physical and polar adsorptive power, by introducing anionic group into open cell polyurethane foam, i.e., an adsorbent, in order to manufacture treating material for the waste water.
CONSTITUTION: Soft or semirigid open cell polyurethane foam, which contains multifunctional polyoxyalkylene polyol, aliphatic or aromatic polyisocyanate, and 0.5W 10wt% a chain-lengthening agent, which has carboxyl group or sulfonic group reacting with anionic group and which has 1W3 active hydrogen atoms capable of reacting with org. isocyanate, is used as the treating material for waste water. The adsorbing material for waste water adsorbs chemically those substances which have cationic group in water such as basic dyes, amines, in addition, adsorbs physically as well with the fine structure of open cell polyurethane foam.
