Abstract

PURPOSE: When a hydrophilic urethane prepolymer with a specific structure is gelled by mixing with water, piperazine is previously added to the water to eliminate the odor, permit the optional control of gelation time and give the uniform gels.
CONSTITUTION: (A) A compound bearing 2 or more isocyanate groups on the molecular chain terminals resulting from reaction of (i) a mixed alkyl glycol from ethylene oxide and an alkylene oxide of 3 or more carbon atoms at a weight ratio of 100/0W70/30, which has 2 or more hydroxyls on the chain terminals and 1,000W 20,000 molecular weight, with (ii) an organic compound with 2 or more isocyanate groups such as tolylene diisocyanate and (B) water containing preferably 0.01W2% of piperazine are mixed to effect gelation.
