Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a cathode with excellent performances in gas resistance, ion impulsive character, high current density, and the like, by adding the carbonate of Ba or the like to Ni powder, heating it under specific conditions, obtaining a sintered porous body and filling the carbonate of Ba or the like into its voids. CONSTITUTION:To Ni powder a desired amount of an alkaline earth carbonate is added, and the resulting mixture is heated at 1,000-1,300 deg.C in the vacuum or hydrogen atmosphere to obtain a sintered porous body of Ni2 and alkaline earth oxide 3, and its voids is filled with the alkaline earth carbonate. For instance, to carbonyl nickel powder, Ni powder containing a small amount of a reducing agent like Mg and 15wt% of a powdery carbonate of Ba, Sr or the like is mixed to perform a pressure molding. The thus-molded body is sintered under the above described conditions while silghtly urging it against an Ni base board metal 1. Then, the carbonate of Ba, Sr or the like formed into a state of suspension by butyl acetate together with nitrocellulose is blown against the thus molded sintered body so as to fill up the voids of the sintered body with the carbonate 4.
