Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve the optical characteristics of a useful polarizing film in a liquid crystal display system of the desk electronic calculators etc. obtainable by unidirectionally stretching and orienting a high polymer film containing a carotenoid dye. CONSTITUTION:A high polymer film such as polyvinyl alcohol, cellophane, polyamide or polyvinyl chloride is impregnated in a dye bath of a carotenoid dye having conjugated double bond chain structure and developing dichromaticity, for example, dye such as carotene, lycopene or cryptoxanthin, thence the dyed film is unidirectionally stretched. Or, the carotenoid dye is uniformly mixed in a polymer soln. constituting the high polymer film, after which a colored film is formed by a soln. casting method or the like; thence the intended polarizing film is obtained by such a method as uniaxially stretching this.
