Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide an acrylonitrile-based separation membrane having separability and mechanical strength, by method wherein a stock solution containing acrylonitrile-based polymer is formed into a membrane at a temperature in the specified range and is freed from solvent under specific conditions.
CONSTITUTION: Acrylonitrile-based polymer is dissolved in dimethyl-formamide contg. formamide to give a stock solution to prepare membranes. The solution is maintained at a temperature higher than its gelling temperature to form a membrane with a desired shape. The one surface of the membrane is brought into contact with an inert atmosphere and then contact a with solution contg. less than 20wt% of a water-soluble solvent compatible with the solvent at a temperature below 40°C. Its other side is brought into contact with a solution contg. less than 50wt% of water-soluble solvent compatible with the solvent at a temperature over 0°C, to remove the solvent. The solidified film is extended to provide an acrylonitrile-based membrane of an asymmetric structure having excellent mechanical strength.
