Abstract

PURPOSE: The high temperature zone for treating cocoons is provided on a higher level than that of the low temperature zone and the treating water is made to flow down from the upper level to the lower to increase the sericin concentration in the low-temperature zone by eluting sericin in the high-temperatue zone, thus saving the consumption of heat and chemicals.
CONSTITUTION: Boiled cocoons, are taken out of the vessel at the cocoon outlet zone 9 and the empty vessel is dried in the drying zone 1. Then, cocoons to be treated are charged in the vessel in the cocoon-charging zone 2 and sent to the soaking zone 3, where the cocoons are treated with warm water containing sericin (and carbonic acid) coming from the aging zone 7 to prevent sericin from leaching out of the cocoon layer and simultaneously to soak in carbonic acid. The treated cocoons are sent to the steam, air-spraying 4 zone where they are treated with air and steam to remove soaking unevenness. The cocoons are sent through the steaming zone 5 and the penetrating zone 6 to the aging zone 7 where they are treated with pressurized carbon dioxide gas. The water that has been used for the treatment is blown through pipes out of nozzle 15 in to the soaking zone 3. The resultant cocoons are sent through the regulating zone 8 and taken out of the vessel in the cocoon outlet zone 9.
