PURPOSE:To manufacture easily the magnet having a special magnetization distribution like the radial distribution, etc., by a method wherein the material powder of the rare earth cobalt magnet is magnetized in an optional direction by the magnetizing field, and is formed applying an orientational magnetic field. CONSTITUTION:A nonmagnetic lower punch 4 is inserted into a mortar 1 consisted of a magnetic material having a saturated magnetic flux density, a center bar 6 made of a magnetic material is made to protrude and the material powder 9 of the rare earth cobalt magnet is put in a penetrating hole 2. A D.C. current or a pulse current is made to flow through a magnetizing field-applying coil 7 to apply a strong magnetizing field in the optional direction, and the powder 9 is magnetized previously. After the current flowing through the coil 7 is cut, currents are made to flow through orientational magnetic field-applying coils 8A, 8B respectively to apply a relatively weak orientational magnetic field in the radial direction. In this state, an upper punch 3 is made to come down to compress and to form the powder 9. After the ring-shape formed substance is sintered, it is magnetized in a desired direction to manufacture the special magnet having the radial distribution etc.
